# How We Rate Hotels and Resorts

> Canonical page: https://luxurybangladesh.com/how-we-rate/ (cite this URL) · Site guide: https://luxurybangladesh.com/llms.txt

Every hotel and resort on Luxury Bangladesh is judged against the same seven criteria, given an editor score out of 10 and re-checked on a fixed schedule. Booking partners pay us commission, but they have no say in which properties we list, the order they appear in or the scores they receive. This page explains how it works.

## What earns a place on the site

We list hotels and resorts that a demanding international traveller would be comfortable booking. Most are 4- and 5-star properties, plus the best 3-star and boutique options in towns with nothing grander. To be listed, a property has to pass five checks.

- **It exists and is operating.** We confirm it on the hotel's official website or its brand's website, and on an active Google Maps listing with recent guest reviews. Properties that are closed, rebranding or have gone quiet are held back until we can confirm their status.

- **Its star class holds up.** We compare the class the hotel claims with its brand's own positioning (where it belongs to a chain) and with its class on major booking platforms. Where sources disagree, we show the lower class or none at all. We never upgrade a property.

- **There is enough guest evidence.** As a rule of thumb, we want at least 50 public Google reviews, including some from the last 12 months, before we analyse a property's reviews. New openings can be listed with fewer reviews, clearly labelled as new and without an adjusted rating until there is enough to analyse.

- **There are no persistent red flags.** We do not list properties whose recent reviews describe repeated problems with safety, hygiene, honest billing or the treatment of guests, whatever their star class.

- **We can verify the basics.** The address, location, check-in and check-out times and core facilities must come from sources we have read. Anything we cannot verify stays blank. We don't guess.

Being listed is not a blanket endorsement. The editor score and our notes on each hotel page say where a property falls short.

## The seven criteria

For each criterion we combine three kinds of evidence: facts we have verified, what guests say in their reviews (see our [review methodology](/review-methodology/)), and comparison with similar properties in the same city or region.

### Location

- Realistic travel times to where you will spend your days, such as Dhaka's business districts and diplomatic zone, a beach or a tea estate, rather than straight-line distance.

- Distance and typical journey time to the nearest airport.

- What the immediate surroundings are like on foot and after dark.

- For resorts: the setting itself, and how practical it is to reach from Dhaka.

### Rooms

- Published room sizes, bed configurations and views.

- Soundproofing, blackout curtains, air conditioning, a proper desk and the quality of the bathroom, as described by the hotel and by recent guests.

- How recently rooms were renovated, and whether guests describe wear and tear.

### Service

- Consistency at check-in, in housekeeping and in solving problems, across many stays rather than one glowing review.

- Help from the concierge and front desk with transport, bookings and local advice, in fluent English.

- How reliable airport pick-ups are and how the hotel responds to complaints, drawn mostly from guest reviews.

### Dining

- The quality and range of breakfast, the restaurant line-up and room-service hours.

- Choice for international guests alongside Bangladeshi cooking, and clear halal provision.

- For guests who drink, whether the hotel has a licensed bar. Alcohol is tightly restricted in Bangladesh, so this matters to many international visitors.

### Wellness and facilities

- Pool, spa and gym, and their opening hours.

- For business guests: reliable Wi-Fi, meeting rooms and a business centre.

- For resorts: the grounds, activities and what there is to do on site.

### Safety and security

- Backup power: generators that keep lifts, lights and air conditioning running during power cuts.

- 24-hour security, controlled entrances and vehicle checks, where the hotel describes them.

- Published fire-safety information, such as alarms, sprinklers and marked exits, and what recent guests report.

- Medical support (a doctor on call), safe late-night arrival, and how comfortable women travelling alone say they felt.

We cannot inspect fire certificates or security procedures ourselves. We report what the hotel publishes and what guests describe, and we say so when information is missing.

### Value

- Whether the typical rate is fair compared with similar properties in the same area and season.

- What is included, such as breakfast, airport transfers and Wi-Fi, and how clearly taxes and service charges are shown.

## How the score is built

Each criterion is scored from 0 to 10. We then take a weighted average to produce the editor score out of 10, shown to one decimal place. Scores compare properties within Bangladesh: a 9 means one of the best places to stay in the country, not a global benchmark.

**Our current weighting**

| Criterion | Weight | Main evidence |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Location | 15% | Travel times, airport distance, guest comments on location |
| Rooms | 20% | Published room details, renovation dates, guest comments on rooms and cleanliness |
| Service | 20% | Our analysis of what guests say about service over time |
| Dining | 10% | Restaurant line-up, breakfast, guest comments on food |
| Wellness and facilities | 10% | Pool, spa, gym, business facilities, grounds |
| Safety and security | 15% | Backup power, security, fire-safety information, guest reports |
| Value | 10% | Typical rates against similar properties, what is included, guest comments on value |

A serious failure in one area is not averaged away. If recent guest reports describe repeated safety or hygiene problems, we lower the overall score or remove the listing until the problem is resolved. If we change the weighting, we will update this table and note the date.

### Three numbers, three sources

| Number | Who produces it | What it tells you |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Editor score (out of 10) | Our editorial team | How a property performs against our seven criteria and its peers |
| Google rating (out of 5) | Google Maps users, published by Google | The average star rating on Google, with the total number of ratings |
| Adjusted rating and trust score | Our review analysis | What the rating looks like once reviews with strong fake-review signals are set aside, and how much confidence the review pattern deserves |

We always label which number is which. Google's rating belongs to Google, and we never present it as our own, either on the page or in the code that search engines read.

## Do we stay at every hotel?

No, and we won't pretend otherwise. Most scores are desk-based. They are built from verified facts, the hotel's own information and careful analysis of public guest reviews. When a member of our team has stayed at or visited a property, the hotel page says so.

We do not accept free stays, meals or gifts in exchange for coverage. If we accept a hosted visit to check facts, we will say so on the page, and it will not change the score.

## How often we re-check

| What | How often |
| --- | --- |
| Google rating and review count | At least every 30 days |
| Review analysis (summary, adjusted rating, trust score) | Whenever we import new reviews, and at least every six months |
| Hotel facts: rooms, restaurants, facilities, policies | At least every six months, and straight away when a change is reported |
| Star class, brand and open or closed status | At least every six months, and when news breaks |
| Indicative prices | Each price shows when we checked it |

## Partners cannot buy rankings

We earn commission when you book through some of our links, and our [affiliate disclosure](/affiliate-disclosure/) explains how. That income pays for the site. Here is what it cannot buy:

- **A listing.** Hotels cannot pay to be included.

- **A position.** Commission rates play no part in the order of hotels on any page. When a list is sorted by our recommendation, the order reflects editor scores and how well each property fits that page, such as distance from the airport on a page about airport hotels.

- **A score.** No partner or hotel can pay for a higher editor score or a better trust score, or to have reviews removed or flagged.

- **A preview.** Hotels do not see or approve our content before it is published.

We do not currently sell sponsored placements. If we ever do, they will be labelled "Sponsored", kept apart from our editorial rankings and excluded from scores.

## Corrections and requests from hotels

If you represent a property and something on its page is wrong, such as a fact, a photo credit, the star class, an opening or a closure, [contact us](/contact/). Send the page address and your evidence, for example a link to your official website or brand page. We correct verified errors and note significant corrections on the page.

We won't change a score or remove fair criticism on request. If you think our review analysis is wrong, our [review methodology](/review-methodology/) explains how to ask for a re-check. Readers can report changes the same way, and we are grateful when they do.

## FAQ

**Can a hotel pay to be listed or ranked higher on Luxury Bangladesh?**
No. Listings, ranking order and editor scores are never for sale, and commission rates play no part in them. If we ever sell sponsored placements, they will be labelled 'Sponsored' and kept separate from scores and rankings.

**Do you stay at every hotel you rate?**
Not always. Most scores are built from facts we have verified and from our analysis of public guest reviews. When a member of our team has stayed at or visited a property, the hotel page says so.

**How often do you update hotel information?**
Google ratings and review counts are refreshed at least every 30 days. Facts such as rooms, restaurants and facilities are re-checked at least every six months, and straight away when a hotel or reader reports a change.

**Why isn't a particular hotel listed?**
It may not meet our criteria yet, for example because it has too few recent public reviews or because we have not finished verifying its facts. Hotels can ask to be considered through our contact page.

**What is the difference between your editor score and the Google rating?**
The editor score, out of 10, is our assessment against seven criteria such as rooms, service and safety. The Google rating, out of 5, is the average of Google users' star ratings as published by Google. We show both, clearly labelled.
