Eight unhurried days with your own guide: Old Dhaka's Mughal heritage, Sreemangal's tea estates and a private cabin on a Sundarbans mangrove cruise.
Your guide meets you in the arrivals hall and drives you to your hotel in Gulshan. Rest after the flight, then a relaxed welcome dinner and a briefing on the days ahead.
Dhaka Dinner
Start early to beat the traffic: the 17th-century Lalbagh Fort, the Star Mosque, the Armenian Church and the pink Ahsan Manzil palace. Ride a cycle rickshaw through the old bazaars and take a wooden boat across the Buriganga at Sadarghat, the busiest river port in the country.
Dhaka Breakfast, lunch
Drive north-east to Sreemangal (about four to five hours), the heart of Bangladesh's tea industry. Afternoon walk through the estates and tea tasting at sunset.
Sreemangal Breakfast
A morning walk in Lawachara National Park, home of the western hoolock gibbon, followed by a visit to a working tea factory and the lakes and hillocks of the surrounding estates. Afternoon at leisure at your resort.
Sreemangal Breakfast
Return to the capital by road. The evening is free — your guide can recommend restaurants in Gulshan and Banani.
Dhaka Breakfast
Cross the Padma Bridge towards the south-west. Stop at the Sixty Dome Mosque in Bagerhat, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, then board your cruise vessel at Mongla or Khulna and sail into the mangroves.
Cruise vessel Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Early-morning boat rides along narrow creeks to look for spotted deer, kingfishers, crocodiles and — with luck — signs of the Bengal tiger. Walk forest trails with forest guards and visit a watchtower.
Cruise vessel Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Sail back to the jetty and drive (or fly from Jashore) to Dhaka in time for your onward flight.
