For American travellers

Visiting Bangladesh from the United States

Planning a trip to Bangladesh from the US? Visas, flight routes, the time difference and private tours priced in dollars — checked for 2026.

Visa for American citizens

US citizens are eligible for a 30-day visa on arrival at Dhaka airport (US$50 in cash, plus processing), or can apply in advance through visa.gov.bd and the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington. There is no fully online e-visa yet.

  • Passport valid for at least six months
  • Visa validity starts on the date of issue, not the date you travel
  • Americans of Bangladeshi origin can apply for a No Visa Required (NVR) endorsement
  • Complete the e-Arrival Card online before you fly (edcard.specialbranch.gov.bd)

Checked October 2026. Rules change — confirm with the official sources and the Embassy of Bangladesh, Washington DC before you book flights. Full details: Bangladesh visa guide.

Flights from USA

There are no non-stop flights between the US and Bangladesh. Most travellers connect via Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Istanbul (Qatar Airways, Emirates, Etihad, Turkish Airlines), or via Asian hubs from the West Coast.

For American travellers, Bangladesh is a genuine discovery: a country of river deltas, tea hills, Mughal heritage and the largest mangrove forest on earth, still largely free of mass tourism. Its luxury hotels in Dhaka match international standards, and a private guide makes getting around simple.

There are no non-stop flights from the US, so most visitors combine Bangladesh with a stopover in the Gulf or South-East Asia, or with a wider trip to India, Nepal or Bhutan. Plan at least 8–10 days on the ground to make the long journey worthwhile.

The practical details below were checked in October 2026. Confirm visa rules with the official sources before you buy flights.

Before you go

  • Read the State Department and CDC travel pages for Bangladesh before you go.
  • Pair Bangladesh with a Gulf stopover to break the journey.
  • Tipping guides and drivers is customary; your guide can advise on amounts.
