Bangladesh Honeymoon Guide: Romantic Itineraries and Luxury Stays
Tea-country villas, sunsets on the Bay of Bengal and a slow mangrove cruise: four honeymoon itineraries for Bangladesh, with the best resorts, the right season and etiquette for couples.
By Luxury Bangladesh editors 12 min read
Photo: Tanvir Rahat / CC BY-SA 4.0 Bangladesh rewards honeymooners who like their luxury quiet: a villa above a tea garden near Sreemangal, a few days by the Bay of Bengal at Cox's Bazar and, for the adventurous, a slow boat into the Sundarbans. Go between December and February, when days are mild and dry, book villas rather than standard rooms, and keep public affection for your private terrace. Below are four itineraries, the resorts worth the splurge and the practical details couples ask us about most.
Facts checked October 2026. Resort packages and the Saint Martin's Island rules change often — confirm with the resort and the official sources linked below before you book.
Four honeymoon itineraries at a glance
| Itinerary | Nights | Route | Best for | Best months |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tea country and the Bay of Bengal | 8 | Dhaka → Sreemangal → Cox's Bazar → Dhaka | A first visit with variety | November–February |
| Slow luxury: tea, spa and villas | 7 | Dhaka → Sreemangal and Bahubal → Dhaka | Resting after the wedding | November–March |
| Mangroves and the sea | 8 | Dhaka → Khulna (Sundarbans) → Cox's Bazar → Dhaka | Adventurous couples | December–February |
| Saint Martin's Island add-on | +1–2 | Cox's Bazar → Saint Martin's → Cox's Bazar | Beach lovers | December–January only (2025–26 rules) |
1. Tea country and the Bay of Bengal (8 nights)
This is the classic pairing: cool green hills first, then the sea. It suits a first visit because it shows you two very different sides of the country with just three internal journeys.
- Night 1 — Dhaka. Land and sleep close to the airport at Le Méridien Dhaka on Airport Road, where the infinity pool and its bar are a gentle way to shake off a long flight. Our Dhaka airport guide covers immigration, SIM cards and transfers.
- Nights 2–4 — Sreemangal. Grand Sultan's own directions put the drive at four to four and a half hours. Alternatively, take the morning train from Dhaka or fly to Sylhet in about 45 minutes and continue for roughly two hours by road. Stay three nights at DuSai Resort & Spa or Grand Sultan Tea Resort & Golf. Walk the forest trails of Lawachara National Park, eight kilometres from Sreemangal town, and order the layered "seven-colour" tea the town is known for.
- Nights 5–7 — Cox's Bazar. Fly to the coast. As of October 2026 some airlines list direct Sylhet–Cox's Bazar services; otherwise connect in Dhaka. Choose Sea Pearl Beach Resort & Spa at Inani for its guests-only beach or Sayeman Beach Resort at Kolatoli for an infinity pool above the sand. Drive a stretch of the 80-kilometre Marine Drive at sunset.
- Night 8 — Dhaka. Fly back for a farewell dinner with a view: SEAR at the Renaissance Dhaka Gulshan Hotel looks out over the city, and Yumi, the Japanese restaurant on the top floor of Sheraton Dhaka, overlooks Banani.
Insider tip: When the timetable allows, flying Sylhet to Cox's Bazar direct saves the best part of a day compared with doubling back through Dhaka. Routes and frequencies change by season, so check them before you fix the resort dates.
2. Slow luxury: tea, spa and villas (7 nights)
For couples who want to do very little, very well. Split six nights between two resorts in the tea hills where Moulvibazar meets Habiganj, then finish in the capital.
- Nights 1–3 — DuSai Resort & Spa. Book a villa. The walled Honeymoon Villa sits on a hilltop with a heated infinity-edge wading pool, a thatched gazebo and a large Jacuzzi, while the Villa Deluxe rooms have open-air bathtubs on balconies facing a serpentine lake and tea garden. The spa has five treatment suites and Thai therapists.
- Nights 4–6 — The Palace Luxury Resort. Move to The Palace at Putijuri in Bahubal, Habiganj, for a hilltop infinity pool, villas, a spa and sauna, a lake stocked for angling and walking trails through the estate.
- Night 7 — Dhaka. End at InterContinental Dhaka, the city's first international five-star hotel. It opened in 1966 and reopened under the InterContinental name in December 2018 after a long renovation.
If one of you plays golf, swap a stay for Grand Sultan, which has a nine-hole recreational course and a full spa.
3. Mangroves and the sea (8 nights)
The Sundarbans, the world's largest mangrove forest and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is explored by boat. It is a wilder, less polished experience than the resorts, which is exactly why some couples love it.
- Night 1 — Dhaka. Arrive and rest.
- Nights 2–4 — Khulna and the Sundarbans. Khulna is the usual gateway. Spend two or three nights aboard a boat with a licensed operator, who arranges the Forest Department passes. Every year the forest closes to all visitors from 1 June to 31 August for the wildlife and fish breeding season, and no passes are issued during that period.
- Nights 5–7 — Cox's Bazar. As of October 2026, Novoair and US-Bangla list flights between Jashore and Cox's Bazar, which avoids a return to Dhaka. Unwind at Inani or Kolatoli.
- Night 8 — Dhaka.
Our Sundarbans luxury tour guide covers permits, cruise types and the best season in more detail, and the Sundarbans place guide has the essentials at a glance.
Insider tip: Before you pay, ask your operator whether your cabin is private with its own bathroom, what safety equipment is carried and who guides the forest walks. The UK government warns that some passenger vessels in Bangladesh carry falsified safety certificates or lack safety equipment, so checking is entirely reasonable.
4. Saint Martin's Island (December–January only)
Saint Martin's is Bangladesh's only coral island: about 3 square kilometres of reef, coconut palms and beach, roughly 9 kilometres off the tip of the Teknaf peninsula. It is tightly protected, and the rules decide your plan:
- Under the 2025–26 rules (notification of 22 October 2025), the island opened from 1 November to 31 January. November allowed day trips only, overnight stays were allowed in December and January, and it closed to tourists for the rest of the year.
- Visitor numbers were capped at an average of 2,000 a day. Tickets were sold only through the Bangladesh Tourism Board portal and came with a QR code and travel pass.
- Tourist ships could sail only from the BIWTA jetty in Cox's Bazar. Routes from Teknaf and Inani were banned.
- Night lighting, loud noise and beach barbecues were banned, as were motorbikes, polythene, entering the keya forests and harming coral, turtles or other marine life.
On 12–13 October 2026 the Environment Minister said the season length, daily cap and departure point would be reassessed for 2026–27, with a final decision to follow. Treat the rules above as a guide only until the new notice is published. Accommodation on the island is limited, so book it together with your ship ticket through a reputable operator and save your luxury nights for the mainland. More detail is in our Cox's Bazar luxury travel guide.
The most romantic resorts in Bangladesh
| Resort | Area | Why couples choose it | Signature feature |
|---|---|---|---|
| DuSai Resort & Spa | Moulvibazar, on the Sreemangal road | Total privacy | Walled Honeymoon Villa with heated infinity-edge pool |
| Grand Sultan Tea Resort & Golf | Sreemangal | Big-resort facilities | Rupnagari Spa, nine-hole golf, Shahi Dine fine dining |
| The Palace Luxury Resort | Bahubal, Habiganj | Hilltop views | Infinity pool overlooking the estate |
| Sea Pearl Beach Resort & Spa | Inani, Cox's Bazar | Quiet beach | Guests-only beach and Pearl Spa |
| Sayeman Beach Resort | Kolatoli, Cox's Bazar | Central and sociable | Infinity-pool café facing the sea |
DuSai Resort & Spa, Moulvibazar
DuSai, on the road to Sreemangal in Moulvibazar district, is the resort most clearly designed for couples. Its villas are the reason to come: lower-floor Villa Deluxe Queen rooms have open-air balcony bathtubs over the lake and tea garden, and upper-floor Villa Deluxe King rooms add 20-foot thatched ceilings and four-poster beds. The private Honeymoon Villa adds a drawing room, a pantry and its own heated infinity-edge wading pool.
The resort's published Honeymoon Package covers two nights with breakfast, five-course set lunches, two candle-lit four-course dinners, a honeymoon cake, flowers, rose petals on the bed and 20% off spa treatments. As of October 2026 it started at BDT 48,000 nett for a Villa Deluxe Queen and rose to BDT 120,000 nett in the Honeymoon Villa, with blackout dates excluded. The spa was scheduled to reopen on 5 July 2026 after a two-month renovation.
Grand Sultan Tea Resort & Golf, Sreemangal
Grand Sultan is the large, full-service option, with 134 rooms and suites across eight categories, up to the Raj Prashad presidential suite. For couples, the highlights are the Rupnagari Spa (Thai, aromatherapy, Swedish and herbal massages, plus sauna and steam), Shahi Dine, which the resort pitches for special occasions, and Oronno Bil, a hilltop barbecue restaurant facing the tea gardens. There is also a 44-seat cinema and a nine-hole recreational golf course.
The large temperature-controlled pool is usually a centrepiece, but when we checked in October 2026 the resort's own website listed the pool and Jacuzzi area as temporarily out of service. Confirm before you book if swimming matters to you.
The Palace Luxury Resort, Bahubal
The Palace sits on hilly land at Putijuri in Bahubal upazila, on the Habiganj side of the Sreemangal tea country, and holds a five-star licence. Press descriptions highlight the hilltop infinity pool, villas from one to three bedrooms alongside a tower building, a spa, sauna and fitness centre, and a lake, amphitheatre and trekking trail on the estate. It suits couples who want space and views more than a busy social scene. Browse more options on our resorts in Moulvibazar and resorts in Habiganj pages.
Sea Pearl Beach Resort & Spa, Inani
Formerly branded Royal Tulip Sea Pearl, this five-star resort stands on Inani Beach, about 40 minutes from Cox's Bazar town, on more than 15 acres between the hills and the sea. A stretch of beach is reserved for guests. There are three swimming pools, the Pearl Spa and Wellness and sea-view studios and suites up to a 2,500-square-foot presidential suite. Its large water park draws families, so couples may find weekdays calmer.
Sayeman Beach Resort, Kolatoli
The Sayeman name has been part of Cox's Bazar since 1964, when it opened as the town's first private hotel. Today Sayeman Beach Resort occupies a beachfront building on Marine Drive at Kolatoli, with the YuMe Infinity Pool Café looking over the sea, a Thai spa and private steam and sauna suites. It is the better choice if you want to walk to the beach and restaurants rather than stay secluded. See all hotels in Kolatoli and Inani.
Dhaka: first and last nights
- Le Méridien Dhaka — on Airport Road at Nikunja, ideal for late arrivals and early departures, with an infinity pool, Olea (Turkish) and Favola (Italian).
- InterContinental Dhaka — history and a central address near Shahbag and Ramna Park.
- The Westin Dhaka — Gulshan 2, with Prego's outdoor terrace and Splash beside the pool and waterfall.
- Renaissance Dhaka Gulshan Hotel — SEAR for fusion fine dining and R Bar on the roof.
Compare every option on our 5-star hotels in Dhaka page, or read where to stay in Dhaka for neighbourhood advice.
When to go: seasons and festivals
For travel planning, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department's calendar, based on temperature, rainfall and wind, comes down to four periods:
| Season | Months | Honeymoon verdict |
|---|---|---|
| Winter | December–February | Best: mild, dry days and cool nights; January is the coolest month, so pack a layer for the hills |
| Post-monsoon autumn | October–November | Good: pleasant and cooling; November is a strong shoulder month |
| Pre-monsoon summer | March–May | Hot, with violent "northwester" thunderstorms; April is the hottest month |
| Monsoon | June–September | Lush tea country but heavy rain, rough seas, and the Sundarbans closes from 1 June to 31 August |
Dates worth knowing:
- Pohela Falgun, 14 February. The first day of spring has fallen on Valentine's Day since a 2020 calendar revision, and it is celebrated with music and colourful saris and panjabis. In 2027 it falls during Ramadan.
- Ramadan, expected from about 8 February to 8 March 2027 (the dates depend on the moon). Check restaurant opening hours and dress more conservatively. The Eid holidays that follow are among the busiest times for domestic travel.
- Pohela Boishakh, 14 April. Bengali New Year, with street processions and fairs.
- Peak periods. Grand Sultan's booking policy asks for 15 days' cancellation notice around Eid, Christmas, Buddha Purnima, Bengali New Year, Durga Puja and New Year's Eve. If your dates overlap, book early and read the cancellation terms carefully.
Our best time to visit Bangladesh guide breaks this down region by region.
Insider tip: Resort offers are often weekday-only and exclude long weekends and blocked dates; The Palace's 2024 half-board offer, for example, ran Sunday to Wednesday only. Plan your resort nights midweek to make the most of these offers.
Etiquette and practical tips for couples
Dress and affection
Bangladesh is a conservative, majority-Muslim country. The UK government advises visitors to dress modestly, with women covering their shoulders and legs in public. Swimwear is for the pool and beach terrace, so cover up in lobbies, restaurants and town. Physical contact between men and women in public is generally frowned upon, and kissing and hugging are considered especially taboo. Resorts give you privacy; streets and beaches do not.
Alcohol
Don't assume a resort serves alcohol; ask before you book. Drinking is legal only in government-licensed venues, which are mostly bars in international hotels, and the UK government notes you may need a liquor permit. Never buy spirits outside licensed outlets, because black-market alcohol has caused deaths from methanol poisoning.
Check-in and ID
Carry your passports. Resorts record identity documents at check-in. Grand Sultan's policy, for example, requires a valid national ID card, passport or driving licence from every guest.
Getting between regions
Domestic flights save the most time: Dhaka to Sylhet takes about 45 minutes and Dhaka to Cox's Bazar about an hour. For road transfers, book a car and driver through your resort, and plan to arrive before dark. The UK government says driving at night is especially dangerous, with robbery risks on intercity routes after dark.
Where not to go
The UK government advises against all but essential travel to the Chittagong Hill Tracts (Rangamati, Khagrachari and Bandarban), and travelling against that advice can invalidate your insurance. Leave the hill districts off a honeymoon unless you have read the latest advice. Our safety guide and Chittagong Hill Tracts guide explain the current position.
Romantic photo spots
- Tea gardens around Sreemangal in the early morning and late afternoon, when the light runs low across the bushes. Our tea country guide maps the best estates.
- Lawachara National Park, a semi-evergreen forest protected since 1996, for green, shaded portraits.
- Ratargul Swamp Forest, about 26 kilometres from Sylhet, where you glide by boat between trees that stand in water year-round and deepest in the rains.
- Marine Drive, the 80-kilometre coast road from Cox's Bazar to Teknaf, at sunset.
- Inani Beach, where dark coral stones break up an 18-kilometre stretch of sand.
- Himchari, where forested hills run down to the Bay of Bengal.
- The Sundarbans at dawn, from the deck of your boat before the day's forest walks begin.
